featuring Ndumie Funda, social activist behind South Africa's 2014 (first) hate crime law, and Salamishah Tillet PhD, UPenn faculty and co-founder of A Long Walk Home, Inc., a non-profit focused on ending violence against girls and women.
Ndumie Funda was born in Gugulethu, Cape Town. In 2008, after having experienced tragedy as a direct result of homophobic violence, she founded the organization Luleki Sizwe, which provides support and shelter to survivors of so-called ‘corrective’ rape.
